Tom's Thoughts This Week...(20200710)

This week on our blog

As you may already know, I’m a voracious reader. I love to read and apply what I learn to my business. One of the best business books I’ve read in the last year (which says a great deal since I average reading one book every 10 days or so) is Mike Rose’s book ...READ MORE

This week on our podcast

Alaska! It was great. Checked another thing off my bucket list. (yay!) I learned some lessons on my adventure and applied them to transitioning your business. One of those lessons I learned traveling the Dalton Highway was that it’s rare to be charged by a moose or startle a grizzly bear. But, if you know what to expect in advance, you can prepare for it. Along the path of transitioning a business, there are plenty of dangers that may or may not materialize. However, if you prepare for how to deal with them before they happen, you have a better chance of remaining calm and making it through the transition and avoiding the pitfalls.

This week on my screen and on my mind

5 Ways to Help Your Business Survive (and even Thrive) LINK

Eric McGehearty at Globe Runner put together this quick business survival list. Great advice.

Got Mentoring? LINK

I'm a huge fan of Mark Mitford at HR Catalyst - a fractional Executive HR firm. Not only was Mark a prior guest on our podcast, but he has also been a service provider to me and my companies, so I know HR Catalyst is great at what they do. I'm also a huge fan of mentoring, and Mark talks about just that in this blog post.

When Do I Need an Investment Banker? LINK

Our friends at Bulkley Capital have been delivering a great series of articles about things business owners should think about to prepare their business for transition. This most recent post makes a strong argument in favor of hiring the right investment banker versus transitioning on your own. Worth the read!
